Carnival/ too many fiestas in Spain?

This last week and this week, people across the the world are celebrating Carnival! And because Spain loves to party and celebrate, at San Juan de Ribera we did just that!

This week was comparative to a "spirit week" that many American schools have.
Monday: Wear something on your head (this was the only time ive ever seen europeans wear a baseball cap)
Tuesday: Wear something around your neck
Wednesday: Wear something colorful on your wrist
Thursday: Wear two different colored socks.... over your pants
Friday: Wear two different shoes

The catch: each day you had to still follow the rules for the other days. So by friday people were decked out literally from their head to their toes
Some other creative ideas were:
bicycle helmat
pasta strainer on the head
hula hoop around the neck
goat bell around the neck
Capes
Sombraro
Bob Marley hat/dread combo
Rainbow 80's rocker mullet
boas
garland
assortment of different ears/headbands
one red high heel, one flat brown boot

On Friday afternoon, there was the big celebration!
After the 2.5 hour lunch break, Everyone got super dressed up with face paint and all (costumes looked more like halloween than their halloween costumes did!)

Then we had a parade around town lead by a police car, with an accompaniment of drums and maracas and lots of parents following us with cameras

Later, we were given hot chocolate (the perfectly thick and delicious spanish kind and the only kind worth drinking/licking clean from the cup)

After, what fiesta in Valencia is complete without fire? So they brought out this dummy stuffed with newspaper that they made, a box filled with notes of things they want to get rid of in the world (war, guns, violence, homework etc) and a boat and fish.... im not sure why that was there.

As the director explained to me today... Valencians and Spaniards love fire, every fiesta has fire... but there are DEMASIADO (too many) fiestas in Spain... I beg to differ. I think that America needs to lighten up, find some patron saints to celebrate (I think that every month theres at least one patron saint worth celebration), and have some fun outside of 4th of July, labor day/memorial day bbq's, halloween, and thanksgiving, we're kind of slacking on the fiesta. Some schools banned cupcakes and even parties in school so that they can focus more on schoolwork!!!! Not cool.

Any thoughts? America- all work and no play? Spain- too much play and not enough work?
